Privacy Policy
Last updated October 14, 2026
BetterCal doesn't collect anything. Your calendars go straight from your device to the provider you signed in to. The developer runs no server and never sees your events, your accounts or your passwords.
Who is responsible
Valentin Lehmann develops BetterCal and is responsible for this policy. You can reach me at info@valentinlehmann.de.
What the app connects to
BetterCal only connects to the services of the accounts you add, using their official interfaces:
- Microsoft 365, Outlook.com and Exchange Online through Microsoft Graph, after you sign in with Microsoft.
- Google Calendar through the Google Calendar API, after you sign in with Google. Directory search in Google Workspace uses the People API, and only after you allow it.
- iCloud through Apple's CalDAV server, with an app-specific password you create.
- Exchange and CalDAV servers whose address you enter. To find such a server, BetterCal asks the domain of your email address.
What happens to your data on those services is up to them and covered by their privacy policies. BetterCal reads and changes only what you ask it to: your events, your answers to invitations, the calendars you add, and directory searches when you look for a colleague or an invitee.
What stays on your device
- A copy of your recent events, so the app opens without waiting for the network.
- The next two weeks of events for the widgets, in storage only BetterCal and its widgets can read.
- Which events you've already been notified about. Notifications and alerts are created on your device. There is no push server.
What syncs through your iCloud
If you use iCloud, BetterCal keeps your settings in your own iCloud account so your other devices can use them. That covers the list of accounts with their names, addresses and server names, which calendars you show, their colours, and your preferences. Sign-in tokens and passwords are kept in iCloud Keychain. The developer has no access to your iCloud account.
What BetterCal doesn't do
- No analytics, advertising or tracking, and no third-party code that does any of these.
- No BetterCal account and no BetterCal server.
- No selling or sharing of data, because there is none to share.
If you have chosen to share crash reports with app developers in your device settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports on to me. You can turn this off at any time in your device's privacy settings.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no external fonts or scripts. The server that hosts it receives your IP address and the page you request, as any web server does, to deliver the page.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. Since BetterCal holds no data about you outside your own devices and accounts, deleting the app and removing its accounts removes everything. For data stored with your calendar provider, contact that provider. For anything else, write to info@valentinlehmann.de.
Changes
If BetterCal ever starts handling data differently, this page will say so before the app does, with a new date at the top.
